II. Acquisition of Players - Draft

**    1. TEAMS WILL PROTECT 3 PLAYERS PRIOR TO DRAFT.
**    2. THESE PLAYERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED 1 WEEK PRIOR
         TO DRAFT (Sunday, September 28 @ 1:00 p.m.)       
**    3. THE 3 PROTECTED PLAYERS MUST PLAY 3 SEPARATE
         POSITIONS (1C, 1W, 1D, for example)
**    4. PLAYERS ON CURRENT ROSTERS CAN BE TRADED FOR OTHER
         PLAYERS FROM SEPTEMBER 1 TO SEPTEMBER 27.
      5. NO TRADES FOR DRAFT PICKS. 
      6. A draft will be held on Sunday, October 5 @ 1:00 p.m. to
         choose remaining players.
      7. Draft positions will be drawn out of a hat.
**    8. Draft order will be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,etc.
      9. Teams must first draft an active roster of:
          3 centers     4 wingers     4 defensemen     2 goalies
     10. Teams will then draft a reserve team of any 8 players.
**   11. This draft order will be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,etc.
     12. Player positions will be determined by the Sporting News
         Hockey Preview Edition's team profile section.
     13. If 2 positions are listed, then that player may play either
           position at any given time.
     14. This league is purely for amusement only
**   15.   YOU MUST PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHETHER YOU
           PLAN TO PARTICIPATE ON/BEFORE JUNE 30.


III. Acquisition of Players - Free Agents

     1. Each team will have a 30 point free agent account.
     2. This money cannot be exchanged in trades.
     3. Each free agent will cost 5 points.
     4. Each team can pick up a maximum of 2 free agents per 
         week.          
     5. If 2 or more teams want the same free agent, they must bid
         against each other in 1 point increments.
     6. It is the responsibilty of the bidding teams to make 
         themselves available to be contacted.
     7. Failure to be available results in the loss of the player.
     8. Free agents can only be picked up on Sundays between the    
         hour of 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. (phone calls only)
     9. Free agent pickups will start on Sunday, October 19.
    10. Report all transactions to Dave.

IV. Acquisition of Players - Trades

    1. The trading period will start on draft day and end at 9:00 p.m.
       on Sunday, February 15.
    2. A trade can be vetoed if all of the other nontrading teams vote
       to veto the trade.
    3. It is the responsibility of the dissenting team to acquire the
       necessary votes.
    4. Report all trades to Dave.
    5. A trade becomes official once it appears on the League Website.
    6. A dissenting team then has 72 hours from the posted time of the
       trade to gather and report the 6 dissenting votes.
    7. No "player to be named later" trades are permitted.

 V. Rosters
    
    1. A team's roster may not exceed 23 players.
    2. If, during the acquisition of a free agent(s) or trade,      
       a team's roster exceeds the 23 player limit, then that
       team must drop a player(s) in order to not exceed the 23
       player limit. 
    3. A player who is dropped from a roster becomes an eligible
       free agent 48 hours after the posted drop time.
    4. This player(s) then can be picked up according to the
       established free agent acquisition rules (Article III).

VI. League Schedule and Scoring

    1. All teams play a 24-game schedule.
    2. Each team will compete against the teams in its own division
       4 times and the teams in the other division 3 times.
    3. The league regular season will follow the first 24 weeks of the
       NHL schedule.
    4. Each week your team's statistics will be compared to your
       opponent's statistics in 7 different categories.
    5. A statistic week starts on Friday and ends on Thursday.
    6. The 7 scoring categories are as follows:
          goals - assists - total points - plus/minus rating
          goalie wins - goals against average - save %
    7. Goalie wins are calculated a 1 point for a win and 1/2 point
       for a tie.
    8. Goals against average is calculated to the hundredths place
       with no rounding off (2.32).  
       [goals given up] x 60, divided by [minutes played]
    9. Save % is calculated to the thousandths place with no rounding
       off (.908).
       [saves] divided by [shots faced]
   10. A goalie's offensive statistics do not count.
** 11. IF YOU HAVE AN ELIGIBLE GOALIE ON YOUR ROSTER AND HE HAS
       PLAYED IN AT LEAST 1/2 OF HIS TEAM'S GAMES, YOU MUST 
       PLACE HIM ON YOUR ACTIVE (SCORING) ROSTER IN PLACE OF A
       GOALIE WHO HAS NOT PLAYED IN AT LEAST 50% OF HIS TEAM'S
       GAMES.  IF A GOALIE IS INJURED, THE TIME OFF DOES NOT COUNT 
       TOWARDS HIS TEAM'S GAMES PLAYED.  GOALIES ON INJURED RESERVE
       PRIOR TO A WEEK BEGINNING CANNOT BE PLACED ON AN ACTIVE
       ROSTER, HOWEVER, HIS BACKUP CAN BE PLACED ON YOUR ACTIVE   
       ROSTER (DUE TO THE INJURY OF THE STARTER).
** 12. AT NO TIME CAN YOU PLACE 2 GOALIES FROM THE SAME TEAM
       ON YOUR ACTIVE (SCORING) ROSTER.
   11. Your team is awarded a goal point for each category that you
       beat your opponent in.
   12. If there is a tie within a category, each team is awarded a 1/2
       point.
   13. The team which wins the most categories (goal points) is given
       the win for that week.
   14. A win is worth 2 points in the standings and a tie is worth 1
       point in the standings.
   15. Mistakes made in the calculations of the scoring week must be
       brought to Dave's attention before Sunday at 7:00 p.m. 
       immediately following a scoring week. At this point, the 
       results are final!
** 16. YOU MUST REPORT YOUR ROSTER TO DAVE AND YOUR OPPONENT BEFORE
       THE START OF THE FIRST GAME DURING THE SCORING WEEK.
   17. This can be done by phone call or E-mail.

VII. Playoffs and Tiebreakers

    1. The top 2 teams in each division qualify for the playoffs.
    2. The divisional tiebreaker is as follows:
           (1) total wins
           (2) head to head record
           (3) divisional record
           (4) total goal points
           (5) coin toss
    3. The statistics of the top 2 teams in each division are 
       compared to each other during the final 10 days of the regular
       NHL season.
    4. The team which wins the majority of the 7 categories in each
       division playoff advances to the Stanley Cup round.
    5. The tiebreaker is as follows:
           (1) Compare the statistics of each team's designated
               star player and goalie.
           (2) total points in the standings.
           (3) head to head record in the regular season
    6. The winners of the divisional playoffs qualify for the Stanley
       Cup round.
    7. Player statistics during the Stanley Cup playoffs are compared.
**  8. YOU MAY CHANGE YOUR STANLEY CUP PLAYOFF LINEUP AFTER EACH 
       ROUND. 
    9. The tie breaker is as follows:
           (1) Compare the statistics of each team's designated
               star player and goalie.
           (2) total points in the standings
           (3) head to head record in the regular season
   10. The team which wins a majority of the categories is the
       overall League Champion,.
** 11. All playoff rosters must be finalized before the start of the
       divisional playoffs, and then again before EACH ROUND OF 
       THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS
